Super Eagles' head coach Éric Chelle has lauded his team's resilience after they secured a 2-1 victory over Madagascar in their opening match of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The encounter took place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday night. The match was won by Kari Eshan's early goal in the 16th minute, followed by George Ilenikhena equalizing shortly after halftime.

Moses Usor sealed the win in the 65th minute with a spectacular dribble past two defenders before scoring the decisive goal. Chelle emphasized the importance of starting the qualifiers on a winning note, acknowledging that his team had chances to score but were too anxious to convert them. He praised his players' determination and commitment, calling their mindset "very good." The Super Eagles will now focus on their upcoming match against Guinea-Bissau next Tuesday.
