Abia NDC senate candidate rejects APC membership, parties clash

Sen. Nkechi Nwaogu, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial candidate for Abia Central, has firmly denied her affiliation with the All Progressives Congress (APC). The controversy stems from a clash between the two political parties over her membership and candidacy for the upcoming 2027 election. The APC in Abia State maintains that Nwaogu remains a member of the party, while NDC asserts she joined their ranks before the deadline for submitting party membership registers to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Nwaogu, previously a member of the PDP and later the APC, resigned from the APC in early May. She emphasized that the NDC's candidacy remains valid and urged her supporters to disregard any misinformation about her membership. The APC, however, insists that Nwaogu participated in their senatorial primary election on May 18, 2026, and is listed as a member in INEC's final published list.
