A record 5-sack day, then a vulgar celebration: Texas’ Colin Simmons has a huge day at Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Texas linebacker Colin Simmons set a program record with five sacks in a game against No. 14 Tennessee on Saturday. The edge rusher scored the first sack of the first quarter for top-ranked Texas. He added another in the second quarter and then had sacks in back-to-back plays in the third quarter. His final sack came in the fourth, which led to the winning touchdown drive.

Simmons tied the record set by Shane Dronett in 1990. Texas coach Steve Sarkisian praised Simmons, calling him the best defensive player in the country. However, the sophomore also made headlines by simulating using the restroom after sacking Tennessee quarterback Faizon Brandon, which resulted in an unsportsmanlike penalty flag.

Both the coach and Simmons' teammates immediately addressed Simmons' behavior. Simmons expressed remorse after the game and apologized for his celebration.
