Why Atiku named El-Rufai in ADC campaign council — Dele Momodu

Dele Momodu, a prominent figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), provided insight into former Vice President Atiku Abubakar's decision to appoint former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai as deputy chairman of the 2027 Presidential Campaign Council. Momodu, who serves as the ADC's Deputy Director-General of the Media and Communications Directorate, made these remarks on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief.

Atiku unveiled his campaign council on Thursday, naming Kashim Ibrahim-Imam as chairman and El-Rufai as deputy chairman. Momodu explained that El-Rufai's appointment was a way to honor his sacrifices, attributing it to the political nature of his struggles. Momodu also cited El-Rufai's decision to return to Nigeria despite the likelihood of arrest as a testament to his commitment to the country.

He further argued that El-Rufai's arrest was unjust, as he willingly returned to face potential consequences. Momodu criticized the bail conditions imposed on El-Rufai, labeling them as excessive. He highlighted El-Rufai's political influence, asserting that he played a crucial role in the rise of President Bola Tinubu to power in 2023.

Momodu emphasized that El-Rufai's inclusion in the campaign council reflects his political relevance and potential contributions to the opposition party's preparations for the 2027 general elections.
