Untuck it! Flyers’ Trevor Zegras penalized for having his jersey tucked into his pants

Philadelphia Flyers center Trevor Zegras became the first preseason player to face the NHL's new "tuck rule" in a recent game. During the Flyers' 2-0 victory over the Boston Bruins on Thursday night, Zegras received a two-minute minor penalty for delay of game. The infraction, described as "improperly wearing equipment," stemmed from Zegras' habit of tucking his jersey into the back of his pants.

The NHL is tightening its rules this season regarding the attire of players' equipment, including jerseys, neck guards, visors, and helmets. Players are mandated to have their jerseys untucked at the beginning of their shift, with a warning issued before a penalty is called. Zegras admitted that his jersey was tucked prior to the start of the game, leading to the automatic penalty after a warning was given.

The last instance of a tucked jersey penalty occurred in 2013, according to NHL.com. Zegras recently signed a four-year contract extension with the Flyers, with an average annual value of $9.125 million. Last season, he had a career-high 26 goals and 67 points, ranking second on his team. He added two goals and four assists during the playoffs.
