Umeh begs Nigerian govt to declare Anambra Central ecological disaster zone as erosion swallows houses

The senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Senator Victor Umeh, has urged the federal government to designate his constituency as an ecological disaster zone due to the severe erosion and flooding plaguing the area. Recent torrential rainfall has caused widespread devastation, including the tragic drowning of a six-year-old schoolboy and the collapse of several houses into erosion gullies, displacing their residents.

Umeh, who recently visited the affected families in Awka, the capital city of Anambra State, expressed deep concern over the continuous threat to buildings and lives in the region. He called upon the federal government to intervene as the local remediation efforts have proven futile. Umeh plans to update his motion on the Idemili North and South axis to include the current situation, urging the federal government to take immediate action to address the ecological disaster unfolding in his senatorial district.
