Berlin saw start-up Personio turn profitable in the first quarter of the year for the first time. Founding CEO Hanno Renner hopes this profitability will persist, yet the rapid growth of costs related to artificial intelligence (AI) appeared to be obstructing this goal. "Our AI expenses have exploded this year," Renner told the Handelsblatt, noting that the current figure stands at six million euros, compared to the projected two million euros.

This significant increase in costs was particularly felt by the human resources provider for small and medium-sized enterprises. The company reported a total sales figure of 196 million euros for 2024, but no further financial details are available. Renner quickly sought to curb this surge in AI expenditures and tasked internal teams to develop various applications.

This allowed the company to gain a clearer understanding and better regulate its costs. As a result, a "KI-Transformationshub" emerged, a central hub that tracked and subsequently optimized these applications, leading to swift success.
