Sindh Launches Fake News Monitoring Cell With NCCIA

The Sindh government has enlisted the assistance of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency to combat the spread of false information on various platforms. Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon instructed the Secretary of Information and all directors of the information department to monitor and address fake news, devising an efficient media strategy in response.

During a crucial meeting involving the information department's key personnel, including Secretary Information Kashif Gulzar Sheikh and DG Information Moaz Pirzada, Memon underscored that any attempt to damage a person or institution through false and misleading content would not be accepted. He mandated the information department to collaborate with NCCIA in suppressing fake news and misleading material, employing modern technology for daily surveillance on major and social media channels.

The minister emphasized that an effective monitoring system would be established within the information department for the identification, verification, and prompt rebuttal of fake news. He also pledged to bolster cooperation between the information department and NCCIA to counter false reporting and misleading campaigns. Memon stressed that NCCIA's support would be sought for legal action against individuals responsible for creating and disseminating fake news.

The Sindh government's stance is rooted in principles of peace, tolerance, inter-provincial harmony, and national unity. The minister directed the department to enhance the government's message by utilizing advanced media tools to emphasize the province's positive and constructive narrative. Additionally, Memon stressed the importance of incorporating representatives from diverse societal groups in promoting the Sindh government's message, while the information department should prioritize both monitoring fake news and amplifying the government's positive narrative.
