Perak court fines buyer, petrol station owner RM25,000 each over RON95 sale to Singapore car

Perak court handed down identical RM25,000 fines to a plantation worker and a petrol station proprietor for their roles in the sale of RON95 petrol to a foreign-registered vehicle. The charges against Wong Ing Wan and Ling Mei Yen were dismissed after both admitted guilt and agreed to pay the fine. The court, presided by Judge Azizah Ahmad, also warned that the duo would face two months in prison if they failed to meet the financial penalty.

Wong was accused of buying 27.452 litres of the petrol from Siew Service Station in Ayer Tawar on May 13 at 8:25pm, while Ling was charged with selling the identical petrol to Wong at the same location and time. Both faces penalties under Section 22(1) of the Control of Supplies Act 1961, with the possibility of a fine up to RM1 million, a three-year prison term, or both for a first offence.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Nazreen Zabarudin argued for a proportionate sentence, citing the public backlash over the sale of the controlled substance RON95 via the BUDI Madani quota. The two unrepresented defendants, who have young dependents, requested leniency.
