Sabrina Carpenter & Margaret Qualley Join Fred Astaire Biopic Cast

Actress Sabrina Carpenter and actress Margaret Qualley have joined the film cast of an untitled biopic about legendary dancer Fred Astaire. The film, which has yet to be given a title, stars Tom Holland as the iconic performer. Carpenter will portray Astaire's famous dance partner, Ginger Rogers, who appeared in 10 films together, including the 1935 musical "Top Hat" and the 1936 classic "Swing Time."

Qualley will play Fred Astaire's big sister, Adele Astaire, who gained fame for her Broadway performances prior to her brother's rise to Hollywood stardom.

This casting marks a reunion for Carpenter and Qualley, as the duo previously collaborated on a music video for Carpenter's hit single "House Tour" from the album "Man's Best Friend." Carpenter, who gained fame from her role in the Disney Channel series "Girl Meets World" (2014-2017), is returning to acting after building a successful music career. In 2023, Carpenter also announced that she will produce and star in an Alice in Wonderland musical film for Universal Pictures.

Fred Astaire's biopic is set to be directed by Paul King, known for his work on "Wonka" and "Paddington." King expressed enthusiasm about bringing the story of Astaire and his original dance partner, Ginger Rogers, to the big screen, as well as Adele Astaire's contributions to the silver screen. The film is being produced by Amy Pascal, Rachel O’Connor, Holland, Ben Holden, and Josh Hyams under the Lightbulb Pictures banner.

Harry Holland and Will South, along with Will Clarke and Andy Mayson from Altitude Films, serve as executive producers, while Ava Astaire McKenzie, Fred Astaire's daughter, and Tyler McKenzie, her son, provide support and consultation for the project.
