Pope Leo visits France: Pontiff wants to focus world's attention on peace, human dignity, technology

Pope Leo landed in France on Friday for a brief four-day journey, aiming to spread a message of peace amid a world engulfed in conflict. The visit is also intended to mend the Catholic Church’s reputation following a series of abuse scandals. Upon arriving at Paris Orly airport, the pontiff was welcomed by French President Emmanuel Macron and his spouse Brigitte, as well as a group of children who serenaded him and sought autographs.

The Pope’s itinerary includes stops at the iconic Catholic shrine of Lourdes in the southwest and Metz, situated near the German border. From September 25 to 28, Leo plans to reiterate his advocacy for worldwide regulations governing the advancement of artificial intelligence. Additionally, he will outline an outlook for Europe’s future. Addressing reporters on the flight to Paris, Leo declared, "It is a message which at this time, as we all may know, is particularly important."

On the first day of his trip, Leo is set to address President Macron and other French leaders at the Elysee Palace, as well as staff members at UNESCO, the United Nations cultural and education organization. UNESCO is grappling with budgetary challenges, exacerbated by US President Donald Trump’s decision.
