Ohale announces retirement after 16-year Falcons spell

Osinachi Ohale, the defender for Nigeria's Super Falcons, has announced her retirement from international football after a 16-year career with the team, according to Saturday PUNCH. The centre-back, who is part of the squad that missed out on qualifying for the FIFA Women's World Cup, shared the news on her Instagram page. Ohale expressed that the decision was difficult, having spent 16 years representing her country.

She made 86 appearances for Nigeria, participating in four FIFA Women's World Cups and seven Women's Africa Cup of Nations tournaments. Ohale scored crucial goals in the 2023 World Cup and the 2024 WAFCON, helping Nigeria secure victories. She thanked her teammates, coaches, staff, family, the Nigeria Football Federation, and Nigerian fans for their unwavering support throughout her career.

Ohale described her greatest achievement as having the privilege to serve her country, emphasizing that she will cherish the jersey in her heart even after retiring. The 34-year-old currently plays for Mexican club Pachuca, having previously represented teams in the United States, Sweden, and Spain.
