Najib belum terima surat rasmi tahanan rumah, kata peguam

Dato Shafee Abdullah, Najib Razak's lawyer, revealed today that the Prime Minister and the Prison Department have yet to receive a formal letter granting conditional pardon for the former premier to serve the remainder of his prison term under house arrest. Kuala Lumpur: Shafee stated that they have yet to receive the formal letter regarding the conditional pardon enabling the former prime minister to serve the remainder of his prison term under house arrest, subject to a RM50 million fine.

It has been a week since the King, Sultan Ibrahim, approved the conditional pardon, but Najib and the Prison Department have still not received the formal letter. The delay is puzzling, and the prison cannot explain the delay. This tardiness undermines subsequent steps by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, as they lack knowledge of the full conditions contained in the formal letter.

When asked if Najib could explain the RM50 million fine today, as required under the terms of the conditional pardon, Shafee said his son cannot afford to pay. "Many are puzzled by this statement in relation to the trillions of dollars (Najib's accounts) going where?" he questioned. Najib received USD681 million (claimed) from the Saudi royal family in 2013, but returned USD620 million, Shafee added.

The lawyer also stated that in the civil suit related to 1MDB and SRC International, two prosecution witnesses questioned whether funds from those companies had returned to Najib's account. "The money did not come back to (Najib's) account," Shafee said. When asked where Najib would serve his house arrest, Shafee said it is always at Langkawi Duta. He added that many reporters have been camping outside the house, as if Najib were there.
