MoFA, ABC Oyasasee Yie sign fertilizer MoU

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) in Ghana has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ABC Oyasasee Yie Limited for the development of a new organic facility in the Eastern Region. This organic facility aims to produce 500,000 metric tonnes of organic fertiliser annually, supporting the country's agriculture. At a signing ceremony in Accra, Minister of Agriculture Eric Opoku called on ABC Oyasasee Yie Limited to expedite the establishment and operationalisation of the facility.

Government stressed that it would not accept any agreements left only on paper, emphasizing its readiness to collaborate in order to produce sufficient organic fertiliser to back the Feed Ghana Programme and enhance food production. The Minister insisted that organic fertiliser is crucial for maintaining soil health, boosting agricultural productivity, and mitigating the adverse environmental and health impacts of excessive chemical fertiliser use.

He further highlighted the necessity to shift towards organic fertiliser, as food produced through agriculture is ultimately intended for human consumption, making the protection of soil and environment critical. The Minister also urged more Ghanaians, particularly the youth, to enter the agriculture sector, stating that it has the potential to generate the jobs they desire.

Opoku assured that the Ministry would supervise the implementation of the agreement, visiting the project site to ensure activities proceed as per the MoU terms. ABC Oyasasee Yie Limited's Director, Samuel Adimado, stated that the project is part of the company's commitment to Ghana's food security and sustainable agriculture agenda, focusing on enhancing soil health, improving agricultural productivity, and building climate resilience.

Adimado said the fertiliser would supply essential nutrients to crops, improve soil structure, and create optimal conditions for sustainable agricultural production. The project would also aid Ghana's import substitution efforts, as a significant portion of the raw materials will be sourced locally from the West African sub-region, promoting industrial development and employment opportunities, especially for young people and graduates of agriculture-related programmes.

Adimado expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture for its support and collaboration towards the establishment of the facility.
