Minister IT Inaugurates Pakistan’s First National-Level Telecom Repair Centre Established by Huawei in Islamabad

Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, officially opened Huawei’s national-level Telecom Equipment Repair Centre in Islamabad on Thursday. This marks a significant step towards developing local technical capabilities and strengthening Pakistan's digital infrastructure. The facility provides repair, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance services for Huawei's telecommunications equipment deployed across the country, aiming to reduce dependence on overseas repairs while improving equipment turnaround times, operational costs, and network resilience.

The center features 16 specialized repair desks and offers repair and testing capabilities for over 180 equipment item codes, covering major technology areas such as wireless, microwave, digital power, and access network technologies. Equipped with Huawei's specialized diagnostic and testing platforms, including BBU testing equipment, V2 testing, XMC Fault Detector, Dummy Load Tester, and DCDU systems, the facility can handle over 10,000 modules annually, with more than 6,000 repaired components expected to be returned to service each year.

Managed by an eight-member local technical team, the center has received specialized training from Huawei's headquarters and boasts more than six years of Huawei maintenance experience. Speaking at the event, Khawaja highlighted the broader importance of Huawei's investment and Pakistan's technology development goals, emphasizing that the facility is a milestone in their journey towards a stronger Digital Pakistan.

Beyond telecom maintenance, the initiative is expected to create high-skilled jobs and build technical expertise in Pakistan, potentially supporting future technology manufacturing capabilities.

The government views Huawei as a key technology partner for Pakistan, with Khawaja stating that the company remains one of Pakistan's key technology partners. Huawei's CEO, Ethan Sun, expressed the company's long-term commitment to developing sustainable technical expertise in Pakistan, describing the facility as a testament to their vision of global technology translated into local capability.

The center has also received ISO 9001:2015 certification, highlighting its focus on standardized processes, quality management, and reliable technical operations.
