Manchester City set to appeal after being found guilty on 114 of the 115 financial charges

Manchester City have been found guilty of all but one of 115 alleged breaches of the Premier League's financial rules, according to reports by the Athletic and the Times. The club is expected to appeal the decision, with the Premier League declining to comment on the matter. This ruling, if confirmed, would be one of the most significant in English football history and marks a major development in a case that has dominated the league for over three years.

Allegations span more than a decade, from the 2009-10 to 2022-23 seasons, and involve a wide range of financial irregularities. Manchester United anticipates higher fiscal revenues in the 2027 Champions League season, while the club has consistently denied any wrongdoing. The hearing, conducted by an independent commission, lasted nearly three months, concluding on December 6.

The case began in February 2023 when the Premier League referred City to the independent commission. Among the most serious allegations, City failed to provide accurate financial information, including sponsorship income and operating costs, for each season from 2009-10 to 2017-18. The club's defence was led by lawyer David Pannick, while the Premier League was represented by Adam Lewis KC.

City was previously banned from the Champions League for two years in 2020 for overstating sponsorship revenue between 2012 and 2016, but the ban was overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Since Sheikh Mansour's Abu Dhabi United Group took control in 2008, City have achieved numerous domestic and international titles.

The stakes are particularly high due to the unprecedented scale of the allegations, which cover more than a decade and involve a comprehensive breach of financial regulations across the league.
