Malaysia gesa perkongsian beban lebih besar bagi pelarian Rohingya

Malaysia has urged for greater international shared responsibility and burden-sharing to support countries hosting Rohingya refugees, following the protracted conflict and dire humanitarian situation in Myanmar. External Affairs Minister Mohamad Hasan stressed that resolving the Rohingya issue requires addressing the root causes, including nationality status, alongside creating safe, voluntary and dignified return conditions to Rakhine State.

Speaking at the OIC Secretary-General Meeting, he urged greater international cooperation to support nations accommodating Rohingya refugees. He reiterated Malaysia's commitment to ensuring accountability for human rights violations and supporting the Gambia's case against Myanmar at the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Malaysia also actively contributes to the OIC's Rohingya Fund and encourages other OIC member states to contribute generously.

On Afghanistan, Mohamad reiterated Malaysia's commitment to the country's human development and socio-economic initiatives, including a practical initiative to support women's education launched by Malaysia on August 10, 2026. The initiative involves renovating two girls' schools in Kabul and providing essential equipment. Malaysia supports OIC's standards for constructive engagement with Afghanistan's de facto authorities, while emphasizing the need for their compliance with international obligations and commitments.

Establishing communication channels is crucial to advancing understanding, addressing concerns, and building confidence in long-term stability. Malaysia will join the OIC's Afghanistan Relations Group in February 2026 to contribute constructively to these efforts. Currently in New York from September 23 to 27, Mohamad leads Malaysia's delegation to the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
