Lee reaffirms he will not seek reelection through constitutional revision

President Lee Jae Myung reiterated on Thursday that he has no plans to pursue reelection via constitutional revision, according to a joint press conference with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum in Mexico City. The remarks came during a meeting with South Korean nationals while Lee was on a state visit to Mexico. Concerned citizens need not fret, as Lee emphatically stated that his term will not extend beyond June 2, 2030.

Throughout his tenure, Lee has consistently maintained that he has no intent of seeking a second term through the means of constitutional revision, which his administration and ruling Democratic Party have accused him of possibly pursuing. The current Constitution stipulates that any alterations to the presidential system will not apply to the president who is serving when the revision takes place. Lee assumed office in June of the previous year for a five-year term.
