Kwadaso Assembly commissions CHPS compound at Nyankyerenease

The Kwadaso Municipal Assembly in Ghana's Ashanti Region has officially commissioned a fully equipped Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound at Nyankyerenease. This facility aims to provide better healthcare access, particularly for the elderly who previously had to travel long distances to receive basic medical care.

The facility, funded by the Assembly's Common Fund, is anticipated to alleviate residents' difficulties in accessing healthcare services. At the commissioning ceremony, Kwadaso Municipal Chief Executive Eric Assibey emphasized the government's dedication to making quality healthcare more accessible to residents and ensuring the successful execution of free primary healthcare initiatives.

He also stated that the Assembly will construct further CHPS compounds in areas where suitable lands are available. Apart from Nyankyerenease, additional CHPS compounds are planned to be built at Asuyeboah Container and Kwadaso. Municipal Health Director Mrs. Grace Billi Kampitib reported that the Nyankyerenease CHPS compound has commenced operations, equipped with health personnel and essential medicines to start serving residents.

However, she highlighted the need for additional equipment and logistical support to enhance the facility's capabilities. Kampitib also expressed concerns about the rising incidence of non-communicable diseases in the municipality, urging residents to seek regular medical care instead of relying on self-medication. She advised residents to maintain active National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards to avoid financial barriers when accessing healthcare services.

Elderly residents attending the commissioning ceremony expressed their relief at the establishment of the CHPS compound, stating that it would eliminate the need for them to trek long distances to access medical care.
