Iran proposes reopening Strait of Hormuz within seven days under conditions

Iran has presented the United States with a proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days, according to Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The conditions for the reopening were outlined during a conversation with US envoy Steve Witkoff. Araghchi is currently in New York for the UN General Assembly. The proposal includes seven conditions for ending the war and reopening the strategic waterway.

These conditions involve a seven-day cease-fire in the Middle East, including Lebanon, the release of $12 billion in frozen Iranian assets, lifting sanctions on Iranian oil, and ending the US naval blockade on Iranian ports. If these conditions are met, the Strait of Hormuz will reopen on the seventh day. Iran has also stated that China supports the proposal, with the Chinese president visiting the US.

Furthermore, other sources confirm that ending hostilities in Yemen is one of Iran's conditions for reopening the strait. Despite previous attempts to resolve the conflict, such as a memorandum of understanding signed by US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in June, renewed hostilities have arisen. Iran requires ships to obtain permission to transit the strait, citing security and sovereignty concerns, while the US has intermittently targeted Iranian coastal areas that do not comply with these demands.
