Iran proposes plan to reopen Hormuz within seven days: minister

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi presented the United States with a seven-day plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, according to an announcement on Friday. A meeting between Araghchi and US envoy Steve Witkoff took place on Tuesday, where Iran presented its conditions for ending the conflict and restoring normal maritime passage.

The plan, conveyed via Qatar, stipulates that if the necessary conditions are met, the strait could be reopened within seven days, according to Araghchi. He emphasized that Iran will not bow to coercion, threats, or intimidation and will not relinquish its sovereign rights under pressure.

The proposed plan appears to include a cessation of hostilities in the Middle East, including Lebanon, for a seven-day period. Additionally, it reportedly calls for the release of Iranian assets frozen in the region, valued at over $12 billion, as well as the lifting of sanctions on Iranian oil and the termination of the US naval blockade around Iran. On the seventh day of the cease-fire, Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz, said Hossein Mohebi, a spokesman for the Revolutionary Guards, Iran's military arm.
