India win second gold medal of Asian Games: Suruchi, Kamaljeet storm to mixed team title

Shooting events at the Asian Games 2026 unfolded with contrasting outcomes on Friday. Suruchi Singh and Kamaljeet secured a gold medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team event, while Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Rudrankksh Patil, and Niraj Kumar narrowly missed out on a gold in the 50m rifle 3 positions team event. Suruchi and Kamaljeet, paired at the last minute, capitalized on a second opportunity to claim India's second shooting gold of the Nagoya Games.

Their total score of 484.6 secured the gold, 6.6 points ahead of South Korea's Choo Gaeun and Hong Suhyeon. Earlier, Suruchi had missed the women's air pistol final, and Kamaljeet narrowly finished ninth in the men's event. In the 50m rifle 3 positions team event, Tomar, Patil, and Niraj were leading after the kneeling and prone stages but struggled in the final standing round, which is the most challenging phase.

Their final score of 1,756 placed them four points behind China's gold-winning score of 1,766. The trio's inability to maintain their advantage led to a silver medal finish. Tomar and Niraj have a chance to redeem themselves in the individual final, which will be held later on Friday.
