Government repatriates 180 Ghanaians from Libya

The Government of Ghana, alongside the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), has successfully repatriated 180 Ghanaian nationals from Libya, according to a recent Facebook post from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This repatriation, which occurred on Thursday, September 24, 2026, comes as part of ongoing efforts to support vulnerable Ghanaians who have been stranded abroad or are seeking to return to their home country. Among the returnees were 153 males and 27 females, including children and infants.

Once they arrived in Ghana, the returnees were warmly welcomed by the Resident Representative of ECOWAS in Ghana, H.E. Mohammed Lawan Gana, alongside officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and representatives from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO). These officials graciously received the returnees and extended their appreciation to all the institutions and partners who contributed to their safe journey back home.

H.E. Mohammed Lawan Gana addressed the returnees during the welcome ceremony, emphasizing that their safe arrival represented a significant milestone in their journey to rebuilding their lives. He reassured them that their return should not be seen as a setback, but rather as a chance to begin anew.
