Gindabour: GNAT demands GES statement on death of teacher

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has expressed concern over the Ghana Education Service's (GES) lack of official response regarding the death of teacher Abu Seidu. According to GNAT, the silence from the GES is particularly troubling given that Seidu was an employee of the Service. In a statement issued on September 24, GNAT emphasized the need for the GES to issue a formal public statement condemning Seidu's death and showing solidarity with his family and colleagues.

The Association stated that the circumstances surrounding Seidu's death have generated national concern and conflicting accounts, making it imperative for the GES to publicly respond. GNAT has called on the GES to acknowledge Seidu's death, express condolences to his family and colleagues, condemn any unlawful conduct that may have contributed to his death, and cooperate fully with an independent investigation into the incident.

The Association also urged the GES to provide appropriate institutional support to Seidu's bereaved family. Seidu, a teacher at Gindabour D/A Primary School, died following an altercation involving police officers in the area, which was followed by the death of a General Constable. The GNAT has emphasized the importance of the GES demonstrating institutional responsibility while the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Seidu's death is ongoing.
