Four more arrested over alleged 2026 school placement fraud

Four additional individuals, comprising a physician assistant in Kumasi, have been apprehended for their alleged participation in the 2026 school placement fraud, as investigations into the manipulation of the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) persist. The latest arrests occurred in Kumasi and at the Accra Resolution Centres.

Yaw Adjei Boateng, a physician assistant at the SDA Hospital, was taken into custody on Thursday, September 24, and questioned by officers of the Intelligence Unit. According to the Ministry of Education, he revealed that he was acquainted with Vicentia Antwi Appiah and that she approached him to assist in securing placement for Benedicta Yaa Edinam at Mafe Methodist Girls’ Senior High School.

Adjei Boateng stated he received GH¢8,500 from Antwi Appiah and subsequently transmitted the funds to his former schoolmate, Brian Opare Addo, who works at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, to aid in the placement. However, the placement did not materialize, he claimed. Adjei Boateng further alleged that he subsequently instructed Brian Opare Addo to refund the money to Antwi Appiah, which was indeed executed.

He also informed investigators that Brian Opare Addo had previously assisted him in securing placement for another individual at St Monica’s Senior High School.

As the probe continues, Brian Opare Addo has been invited to appear before the Intelligence Unit on Monday, September 28, to contribute to the investigation. The arrests at the Accra Resolution Centre on Friday, September 25, added two more individuals to the count, bringing the total number of those detained in relation to the probe to four over the past 48 hours.

An additional person was invited to assist in the probe. Previously, on September 17, 2026, the Police Service had apprehended two individuals on suspicion of involvement in school placement fraud.
