Flag football easier than American football – Chuey Chu

Chuey Chu, a Nigerian media personality and former civil engineer, shares his journey from engineering to media and his passion for sports in an interview with PETER AKINBO. He mentions that he started his media career during his university days at North Dakota State University in America, where he did volunteer radio and MCed shows. After returning to Nigeria, he dabbled in media and later became a TV presenter.

Chuey Chu played two sports during his growing up years: track and field, and American football as well as football. He currently still plays American flag football, which is making its debut at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Between flag football and American football, Chuey Chu believes that flag football is easier to learn and adapt to due to its lower cost and growing popularity in Nigeria.

When asked about his parents' influence on his decision not to pursue sports professionally, Chuey Chu explains that his mother has a background in running and that he inherited her athleticism. While his father took more convincing, he ultimately supported Chuey Chu's career path, as he was achieving results and gaining recognition.

As for his favorite sports team, Chuey Chu states that he supports Manchester United, the Red Devils. He also mentions that American football has gained significant traction in Nigeria, making it a tough competitor for his attention alongside football.

Chuey Chu enjoys being a media personality because it allows him to experience different people and connect with various industries, learning new things and appreciating others' work. When it comes to investing in sports as an entrepreneur, he plans to focus on sports media and sporting talent, starting with investing in himself. Regarding his children, he intends to encourage them to participate in sports, drawing inspiration from the American system, which provides a supportive environment for athletes.
