EQAO standardized test success rates up slightly from previous year

The Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) released standardized test results on Friday, indicating a slight improvement in Ontario students' math scores. Math scores for Grade 6 students were particularly low, with only 52 per cent meeting the provincial standard. This represents a one percentage point increase from last year's 51 per cent.

However, literacy results remained strong, with nearly 90 per cent of Grade 6 students meeting the provincial standard in reading and writing. Paul Calandra, the Minister of Education, acknowledged the progress but noted that more work is needed as achievement gaps persist and results remain uneven across the province. The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test, typically taken in Grade 10, saw an increase in first-time eligible students meeting the standard, with 86 per cent meeting the requirement, up one percentage point from the previous year.
