Emergency services hit at AIIMS Jodhpur as strike over resident doctor’s suicide continues

Emergency responders were called to AIIMS Jodhpur as a strike over a resident doctor's suicide continued on its third day. The situation began when a fellow resident doctor, Raj Naresh Yadav, took his own life, allegedly due to mounting work pressure. In response, other resident doctors staged a sit-in outside the OPD and refused to return to work until their demands were met.

These demands included the resignation of certain individuals held responsible for the circumstances leading to Yadav's death, financial aid for his family, and the formation of a Resident Doctors' Association (RDA).

AIIMS Jodhpur's director, Dr. Govardhan Puri, visited the protest site and attempted to speak with the striking doctors, who remained steadfast in their demands. Puri left the scene after his interaction with the protestors. Barmer MP Ummeda Ram Beniwal expressed concern over the indefinite strike, stating that it had severely impacted emergency and OPD services, causing distress for patients and their families. He appealed to the Union Health Minister to address the matter promptly.

Prior to the strike, resident doctors had demanded a public apology from the administration, financial assistance for Yadav's family, and his resignation. They also reiterated their desire for the establishment of an RDA, which the administration had initially agreed to, but discussions on other demands were still ongoing. The protesting doctors emphasized that their request for an RDA had been acknowledged by the administration, but talks on other issues were still in progress.
