Debt dispute deepens as Anambra releases N363m document on workers’ arrears

The Anambra State Government has released a document revealing that it approved N363.381 million as the second tranche of salary arrears for workers, pensioners, and relatives of former employees of the defunct Anambra State Water Corporation and the Anambra State Environmental Protection Agency. This development comes amid a dispute between the state government and ex-Governor Peter Obi regarding unpaid workers' entitlements after he left office in 2014.

The document, signed by then Head of Service Dame Theodora Okwy Igwegbe, was published on May 24, 2025, and addressed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo. The Anambra State New Media Office highlighted the release on X with the caption, "PART 3: EVIDENCE THAT LYING IS IN PETER OBI’S DNA." The Soludo administration had paid the first tranche of workers' entitlements, which Obi claims were unpaid during his tenure.
