I will jail anyone who rigs election under my administration – Peter Obi vows

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has pledged that anyone who engages in electoral rigging under his administration will face imprisonment, even in cases where a single vote is manipulated. The NDC candidate made this statement during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time, where he addressed electoral integrity, opposition politics, and democratic governance as he prepares for the 2027 presidential election.

Obi emphasized that his commitment to upholding the integrity of Nigeria's electoral process would be unwavering, stating, "I’ve said it, and I’ll say it again: if I am the serving president of this country, whoever rigs elections will be in jail. Even for one vote, you will be in jail."

In addition to his firm stance on election rigging, Obi vowed that political parties, including opposition parties, would not face harassment during his presidency. He highlighted that the government would engage these parties in decisions affecting the country, fostering a collaborative approach to governance. Furthermore, Obi criticized the restrictions imposed on his campaign activities in certain states, asserting that candidates must be permitted to campaign freely, irrespective of their political affiliations.

He also announced a commitment to involving opposition members in government decisions whenever he travels abroad, demonstrating his dedication to inclusive and transparent governance.
