Cash ‘vanishes’ mid-air: Cops hunt foreign national after RM60,000 goes missing from passenger’s backpack on KL-Penang flight

A 54-year-old passenger discovered that RM60,000 in cash was missing from his backpack upon arriving in Penang yesterday, after a flight from Kuala Lumpur. Police are now searching for a foreign national who was reportedly on the same flight. South-west district police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuwal Ab Wahab stated that the victim suspects a foreign man was involved in the theft.

Investigators are examining the passenger list and CCTV footage to track the suspect's whereabouts. The case is being handled under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which deals with theft. This is not the first suspected theft incident during a flight in the district; a similar incident was reported on September 17. A 55-year-old Chinese man was arrested and charged at the Balik Pulau Magistrates' Court for that case.

Anuwal advised the public to be cautious and keep their belongings, particularly cash and valuables, secure and under constant watch when using public transportation, including during flights.
