Cash ‘vanishes’ mid-air: Cops hunt foreign national after RM60,000 goes missing from passenger’s backpack on KL-Penang flight

A 54-year-old passenger arrived in Penang on September 25 to find that RM60,000 in cash had mysteriously vanished from his backpack during the Kuala Lumpur to Penang flight. Authorities are now hunting a foreign national, believed to be on the same flight, as the victim suspects the suspect. South-west district police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuwal Ab Wahab said that investigators are examining the passenger manifest and CCTV footage in their pursuit of the suspect.

The case is being treated as theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code. This is not the first suspected theft aboard a flight in the district; a week prior on September 17, a 55-year-old Chinese national was charged for an attempted theft aboard an incoming flight. The public is advised to remain vigilant and ensure personal belongings, particularly cash and valuables, are kept secure and under constant supervision when utilizing public transport, including flights.
