Anwar thanks Cherok Tokun community for helping with brother's funeral

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 25 — Several Cabinet ministers have paid their respects to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his family in the wake of the passing of his elder brother, Idrus Ibrahim, on September 24. Idrus, aged 83, departed from his residence in Cheruk Tokkun, Bukit Mertajam, at around 5:30 pm on the said day.

Agriculture and Food Security Minister Mohamad Sabu expressed deep sorrow over the loss of a brother, wishing Allah SWT to forgive the deceased for his shortcomings and bestow mercy upon his soul. Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo also conveyed his grief, sharing the pain of losing a loved one and empathizing with Anwar’s emotional state.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek remembered the late Idrus as a seasoned fighter in the struggle, possessing immense experience and wisdom. He often reminded others that the present struggle was built upon the sacrifices and loyalty of those who came before. Idrus believed that politics was about people and the values upheld throughout the journey. Every time the Education Minister visited him, she would return with advice, a reminder, or sometimes even sharp criticism, as he aimed to keep the struggle on the right track.

Human Resources Minister R. Ramanan conveyed condolences to Anwar and the family, praying for their strength, resilience, and peace during their loss. Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Steven Sim described the late Idrus as more than just his teacher and headmaster; he was a firm, disciplined, and principled educator who always cared for his students.

The Minister expressed deep appreciation for Idrus' advice and guidance, which he received throughout his journey from being a Member of Parliament to a Cabinet member.
