After Ukraine’s overnight attack, Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery — one of southern Russia’s biggest fuel suppliers — halts operations

The Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery, a major fuel supplier in southern Russia, ceased operations following an overnight attack by Ukrainian drones, according to Rostov Governor Yuri Slyusar. While there were no reported injuries, the facility did suffer damage. Russian air defenses successfully intercepted approximately 50 drones over the Rostov region during the night.

The refinery, located in the Rostov region, is one of the largest in southern Russia, with a yearly production capacity of around 5.6 million tons. Forbes Russia recently featured the plant on its list of the country's largest investor companies. This was not the first time Ukraine targeted the Novoshakhtinsk refinery; it was struck twice in August, with a substantial fire that firefighters struggled to contain for days.

Russian air defenses managed to shoot down a total of 592 Ukrainian drones overnight across Russia, Crimea, Perm Krai, Ulyanovsk, and Voronezh regions. The assault in Perm led to a fire at the Lukoil-Permnefteorgsintez refinery, resulting in one fatality. In Ulyanovsk, the drones damaged civilian and industrial infrastructure, causing eight injuries, including a child.

Voronezh faced the attack on the Voronezhsintezkauchuk plant, which produces thermoplastic elastomers and synthetic rubbers, resulting in thirteen injuries, including a child.
