(2nd LD) Lee says Ukraine disclosed transfer of 2 N.K. soldiers in breach of non-disclosure agreement

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung expressed disappointment that Ukraine disclosed the transfer of two North Korean prisoners of war to South Korea, alleging a breach of a non-disclosure agreement. The disclosure, according to Lee, could lead to numerous problems and jeopardize inter-Korean ties and national security. The Ukrainian president had announced the transfer during his address to the United Nations General Assembly, stating that Ukraine had transferred the North Koreans to South Korea following direct talks with Seoul.

The Ukrainian presidential office confirmed the transfer, asserting that the details were intentionally kept confidential to avoid raising concerns. South Korea and Ukraine had reportedly been discussing the possible transfer after the North Korean soldiers expressed their desire to move to South Korea. The South Korean government had initially declined to confirm the soldiers' arrival, citing fears for their safety and those of their families still held captive in North Korea.

Despite opposing parties' criticism of the confidentiality agreement, Lee emphasized that disclosing the transfer would be unfeeling and irresponsible. The president hoped for an end to the inhumane conflicts that cause the loss of innocent lives.
