US ‘totally rejects’ any attempt to control ‘superintelligence’

The United States firmly opposes any plans to create a global system of control over superintelligence, according to a White House representative addressing the United Nations Security Council on Wednesday. Michael Kratsios, who oversees the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, emphasized during the AI and international security meeting that international discussions should not stray towards global governance.

Superintelligence, as referred to by former US President Donald Trump in his UN address, pertains to artificial intelligence that surpasses human intelligence. Kratsios highlighted that the US, as a leader in frontier superintelligence, has taken measures to ensure the technology's safe and responsible progression. He asserted that there is no need to halt further development or impose new global governance structures upon it.

Instead, Kratsios advocated for country-specific regulations rather than a unified global framework. He stated that American representatives would legislate and regulate on behalf of their citizens. He urged a similar approach for other nations, suggesting that only through an open, cooperative ecosystem with sovereign infrastructure and domestic capacity can the world fully harness the potential of this technology.
