US ‘totally rejects’ any attempt to control ‘superintelligence’

The United States firmly opposes the idea of establishing a global control mechanism over superintelligence, according to a White House representative speaking at a United Nations Security Council meeting on AI in New York. Michael Kratsios, who oversees the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, made this clear during the forum. Superintelligence, a concept frequently referenced by former President Donald Trump, refers to artificial intelligence systems surpassing human intelligence.

The US, asserting its leadership in this domain, has taken measures to ensure the safe and responsible progression of frontier superintelligence technologies. Kratsios emphasized that there is no need to pause development or impose new global governance structures on these advancements. Instead, he advocated for a country-by-country approach to regulation, stating that the American people's representatives should legislate and regulate AI on their behalf.

Kratsios stressed the importance of an open, cooperative ecosystem built on sovereign infrastructure and domestic capacity to fully leverage the potential of this technology. Earlier in the meeting, leaders from OpenAI and Anthropic echoed these sentiments, urging international cooperation to manage the risks associated with AI as it continues to evolve.
