Umahi: Reconstructed First Niger Bridge Opens Next Week

Minister of Works Dave Umahi has ordered the removal of illegal billboards from the reconstructed First Niger Bridge and replaced them with pictures of President Bola Tinubu, rewarding his hard work on the project. Upon inspecting the bridge after a two-week deadline for maintenance work, Umahi announced that the bridge would be officially opened to motorists the following week.

The president's efforts for the Igbo people, according to Umahi, are commendable, and he urged those supporting Peter Obi’s presidency to consider Obi's contributions to the region and not to waste their votes in the upcoming 2027 election.

Umahi pledged to remove all illegal advertisements from the bridge, encouraging businesses to apply for advertising through the Ministry of Works. He expressed pride in President Tinubu's achievements and criticized those who abuse social media, urging them to focus on what Obi has brought to the South East. The minister also informed the security chiefs that there would be no need for checkpoints 200 meters from the bridge, which obstructs traffic.

Anambra and Delta State governors were instructed to monitor the scrap market closely, as it contributes to the deterioration of public infrastructure.

The minister praised the bridge's progress, which includes the installation of CCTV cameras, streetlights, and the replacement of asphalt, carriageway, walkways, expansion joints, bolts, and other structural elements. He thanked Anambra and Delta states for their support and apologized for the temporary inconveniences caused during the rehabilitation process.

The bolts and expansion joints were replaced, with the company delivering high-quality work. The final touches, such as painting the kerbs and repainting metal elements, will be completed in the coming days. The bridge will open for one carriageway next week, with the other side to follow after 21 days.
