Umahi dismisses Peter Obi comparison, says ‘not yet Igbo turn’ for presidency

Dave Umahi, the Minister of Works, has dismissed comparisons between himself and presidential candidate Peter Obi, stating that no area exists where the former Anambra State governor surpasses the other. Speaking at the 'Operation Rescue Benin-Asaba Road' event in Benin City, Umahi emphasized that the South-East would eventually produce Nigeria's president, but added that "it is not yet our turn."

When confronted about Obi's "not my match" remark, Umahi suggested considering their family backgrounds, intellect, and service records. He defended his backing for President Bola Tinubu, stating that administration members would not remain silent when criticized. Umahi also criticized Obi, calling him "a lucky person" due to his ability to evade scrutiny.

Regarding the 2027 presidency, Umahi rejected claims that Igbos would never produce Nigeria's leader, saying, "It is not yet the turn of Igbos." He also announced plans to redesign the Benin-Asaba dual carriageway with reinforced concrete pavement, despite the road concessionaire failing to agree on a solution.
