Two dead as Kyiv hit with fresh Russian strikes - mayor

Early on Wednesday, Russian forces launched ballistic missile strikes on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, resulting in two deaths and six injuries. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that one victim was found in the car park of a maternity hospital. Six individuals were injured, among them three medical personnel and two in serious condition.

The attack caused damage to parts of a maternity hospital and a nearby clinic. Debris fell in three districts of Kyiv, potentially trapping people under the rubble. A 16-storey residential building and private homes in the city were also impacted. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy denounced the repeated Russian missile attacks, emphasizing that they continued due to insufficient pressure on Russia.

He called for stronger responses, including ballistic interceptors and sanctions against Russia and its allies. The strikes occurred while Zelenskiy was engaging with US Congress members regarding new Russia sanctions. Witnesses reported multiple explosions after 1:00am local time, and unverified reports indicated a fire in the distance.

Russian forces had engaged in attacks on Kyiv throughout Wednesday, resulting in two fatalities and 45 injuries, as per Klitschko's Telegram updates. In the Black Sea port city of Odesa, the municipal military administration head, Serhiy Lysak, also conveyed on Telegram that Russian strikes overnight had damaged residences, medical facilities, and educational institutions in the area.
