Thai weightlifter Teerapong Silachai wins Asian Games bronze

NAGOYA, Japan — On Thursday, September 24, 2026, Thailand's weightlifter Teerapong Silachai secured the bronze medal in the men's 60kg event at the 20th Asian Games. The Asian Games took place at Fukiage Hall in Nagoya, Japan.

Prior to the competition, Teerapong had previously won a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. During the event, he faced a challenge in the snatch discipline, missing on his first two attempts. However, he managed to recover and successfully lift 126kg on his third attempt.

In the clean and jerk, Teerapong lifted a total of 173kg, contributing to his final score of 299kg. This total placed him third in the rankings.

China's Yang Yang emerged victorious, claiming the gold medal. Yang lifted 138kg in the snatch and 166kg in the clean and jerk, totaling 304kg. This performance set a new Asian Games record.

North Korea's Pak Un-chol claimed the silver medal, finishing with a total of 301kg. He lifted 126kg in the snatch and 174kg in the clean and jerk, also establishing a new Asian Games record.

Teerapong's achievement adds another major international medal to his record following his silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
