Teachers accused of sexual misconduct to be removed pending investigations

Teachers facing allegations of sexual misconduct with students will be temporarily removed from their positions pending investigation, according to Education director-general Datuk Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad. The measure aims to prevent such teachers from having any contact with pupils during the course of an investigation.

The announcement came after a case emerged involving a female teacher, aged in her 30s, who is accused of engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old male student. The allegations surfaced following the discovery of a video showing the pair meeting at hotels and at her home. The teacher allegedly invited the student on walks and meals before taking him to hotels in Seri Kembangan near Serdang, and allegedly committed sexual acts with him, recording some of the acts on her mobile phone.

The accused teacher was arrested in Bandar Kinrara on Monday evening. The case is being handled under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

Should a teacher be found guilty following a criminal trial, they will face disciplinary action, which may include dismissal. During the investigative phase, teachers could also be suspended, receiving only half of their salary. The Education Ministry intends to take appropriate disciplinary action, whether through termination or other means, in cases of such serious misconduct.
