Takiyuddin hints at political pressure behind RoS action against PN

Perikatan Nasional (PN) secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan has indicated that political pressure may be influencing the Registrar of Societies' (RoS) actions against the coalition. In a recent statement, Takiyuddin noted that the coalition had not ruled out the possibility of the RoS's actions being driven by a "mala fide" agenda, suggesting external political pressure from within and outside PN.

The coalition received a notice from the RoS on Tuesday, informing them that their registration would be canceled unless they provided a reason within 30 days. Additionally, PN received a suspension order under Subsection 13(2A) of the Societies Act 1966. Despite acknowledging the RoS's decision, PN maintains that it does not align with the coalition's objectives, which are supported by its members and supporters.

PN plans to defend its interests through legal channels and has issued an immediate gag order, restricting statements to be made only by PN chairman Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar and Takiyuddin himself. Both PAS and Gerakan have expressed their views on the matter, with PAS pledging to work with PN component parties to investigate the RoS's actions and Gerakan deeming the suspension order as surprising and disappointing, especially considering PN's preparations for the upcoming Melaka polls.
