Takiyuddin hints at political pressure behind RoS action against PN

Perikatan Nasional (PN) chief Takiyuddin Hassan has hinted at political influence potentially behind the Registrar of Societies' (RoS) action against the coalition. In a recent statement, Takiyuddin indicated that the RoS's decision to cancel PN's registration and suspend its activities may have been driven by a "mala fide" agenda and political pressure from within and outside the coalition.

The cancellation notice, issued pursuant to Subsection 13(2) of the Societies Act 1966, allows 30 days for the coalition to explain its actions. Takiyuddin also received an order under Subsection 13(2A) suspending the coalition's activities until further notice. PN has taken legal steps to defend its establishment and political agenda, which are supported by its members and supporters.

Takiyuddin urged PN members and supporters to remain calm and stated that the matter is being handled appropriately. PN will issue updates as the situation unfolds. The suspension order coincided with the dissolution of the Melaka state legislative assembly, raising questions about the timing of the RoS's actions. Opposition parties PAS and Gerakan expressed surprise and disappointment over the RoS's decision, particularly in light of PN's efforts to prepare for the upcoming Melaka polls.

They emphasized that the suspension notice seemed inconsistent with the principles of fair and open democracy.
