Stitch Fix AI Try-Ons Drive Surge in Shopper Spend

Stitch Fix, the online personal styling service, is experiencing a notable increase in spending from clients who interact with its AI-generated image tool, called Stitch Fix Vision, according to CEO Matt Baer during a recent earnings call. Launched in October, this platform enables clients to visualize themselves in recommended outfits by uploading a selfie.

Since its inception, Stitch Fix has distributed over 22 million Vision images to clients, Baer reported. The company attributes the surge in client engagement and spending to the combination of AI with its deep understanding of each client’s preferences, which provides personalized style inspiration. While the company’s net revenue rose 4.2% year over year, active clients declined by 1.4%, and net revenue per active client surged 7.8% year over year in a quarter where the total U.S. apparel, footwear, and accessories market remained flat.

Baer emphasized that technology, particularly AI, is at the core of Stitch Fix’s strategy, leveraging 15 years of proprietary data and algorithms in collaboration with its stylists. The AI system enhances client experience and operational efficiency by aiding in item recommendations, optimizing labor planning and real-time scheduling, and managing routine customer service requests, thus improving productivity and reducing the cost to serve.
