Ruto, Iraq PM explore new jobs for Kenyan educators

NAIROBI, Kenya — President William Ruto of Kenya and Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi are exploring potential for Kenyan professionals to work in Iraq, with a focus on greater labour mobility, particularly for educators. The two leaders discussed expanding bilateral cooperation during the United Nations General Assembly in New York, touching on trade, investment, education, energy, oil and natural gas, ICT, cultural exchange, and human capital development.

The discussions also examined opportunities for Kenyan teachers and other skilled professionals in Iraq's energy sector, which is a major global oil producer with vast reserves. While no specific agreement or job numbers were announced, Ruto emphasized the efforts to establish new pathways for Kenyan skilled workers and strengthen people-to-people ties.

The talks reflect Kenya's broader strategy to enhance economic diplomacy and create overseas opportunities for its professionals, including incorporating labour mobility and education partnerships into bilateral engagements.
