Retaining talent key to India's AI rise: Vala Afshar

Indian kitchen appliance market is set to see a premiumisation wave, with investors eager to back startups offering high-quality, design-focused and safer products. Recent rounds of funding have been pouring in, with companies like Beyond Appliances, Nuuk, Curaa and Ember securing investments. The premium segment in Indian appliances, currently valued between Rs 400-440 crore, is expected to grow at a rate of 15-25% annually.

Factors driving this growth include rising incomes, smaller living spaces and the popularity of open-plan kitchens.

However, India's AI potential remains partly untapped due to a talent drain to overseas hubs like Silicon Valley. Salesforce's Vala Afshar, chief digital evangelist, warns that India must retain its AI talent to become one of the top three AI powers globally. Despite the talent loss, Afshar remains optimistic, stating that India has the necessary talent pool and AI innovation to become a significant player in the AI landscape.
