QFZ signs strategic MoU with Aethon International to expand advanced manufacturing in Qatar

The Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZ) and Aethon International QFZ LLC recently signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at expanding advanced manufacturing and industrial innovation in Qatar. The agreement, signed by HE Chief Executive Officer of QFZ Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad Bin Faisal Al-Thani and founder of Aethon International QFZ LLC Gordon Huddleston, was brokered at the QEF: UNGA Special Edition 2026 in New York.

The MoU seeks to establish a regional manufacturing hub in Qatar’s free zones, focusing on the production of high-performance, corrosion-resistant pipes to meet the surging demand in the energy and infrastructure sectors. This collaboration also paves the way for the creation of an innovation center in Qatar’s free zones, dedicated to developing new applications for advanced piping solutions in various strategic industries.

QFZ's CEO Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad Bin Faisal Al-Thani highlighted the significance of this agreement, stating that it underscores Qatar's growing role as a base for advanced manufacturing catering to regional demand. He emphasized that QFZ offers the necessary infrastructure, connectivity, and business ecosystem to support this growth and contribute to the country's ambitions for a more resilient and globally competitive industrial economy.

The MoU also supports ecosystem development through collaboration with partners, suppliers, research institutions, and academia. Its primary focus is on enhancing local capabilities and developing Qatari talent. Additionally, the parties will explore opportunities to leverage Falcon Pipe Industries' expertise and solutions for customers in key markets.

Aethon International's founder, Gordon Huddleston, expressed Qatar's compelling opportunity to build advanced manufacturing capabilities that can cater to growing demand in the energy and infrastructure sectors, both within Qatar and beyond. He praised QFZ's strategic location, integrated ecosystem, and access to regional markets, stating that they provide a strong platform for developing this vision while fostering innovation, local capability-building, and long-term growth.
