PURC keeps electricity and water tariffs unchanged for fourth quarter of 2026

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) announced on October 1, 2026 that electricity and water tariffs will remain unchanged for the fourth quarter of 2026. The decision, made following a quarterly tariff review, maintains existing rates from the third quarter, representing a 0% adjustment effective October 1, 2026. The review assessed factors such as the Ghana cedi-US dollar exchange rate, domestic inflation, electricity generation mix, and fuel costs, particularly natural gas used for thermal plants.

A 3.04% depreciation of the cedi against the US dollar and a 4.97% increase in annual inflation were taken into account. The weighted average exchange rate for the quarter was GH¢11.5646 to US$1, down from GH¢11.2228 in the previous quarter. Additionally, the PURC considered projected changes in hydro and thermal generation, as well as the weighted average cost of gas.

Despite these factors, the combined effect did not warrant an adjustment to electricity tariffs. Water tariffs, too, will remain unchanged for all customer categories, including residential, non-residential, commercial, and industrial users. The Commission pledged to continue monitoring utility providers to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and improve service quality.
