PURC keeps electricity and water tariffs unchanged for fourth quarter of 2026

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has decided to keep electricity and water tariffs unchanged for the fourth quarter of 2026. This maintains the existing third-quarter tariffs at the same rates, with a 0 per cent adjustment effective October 1, 2026. The choice is based on a quarterly tariff review that examined key economic and operational factors influencing utility service costs.

The review considers the Ghana cedi-US dollar exchange rate, domestic inflation, electricity generation mix, and fuel costs, particularly natural gas. For the fourth quarter, the cedi depreciated by 3.04 percent against the US dollar, while the average annual inflation rate increased to 4.97 percent. Gas prices decreased by 1.67 percent.

The combination of these factors did not necessitate a tariff adjustment. All customer categories, including residential, non-residential, and special load tariffs, will continue to pay the rates applied since the third quarter. Water tariffs will also remain unchanged during the fourth quarter. The PURC will continue to monitor utility providers to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and improve service quality. The decision will be published in the Gazette and on the Commission's website.
